This was so good! This is, yet another, WWII story. This is NOT the usual WWII story. It is a story told from the perspective of a 'good' German family trying to live their lives according to the Nazi doctrine. They struggle with trying to scratch out a living as bakers and trying to keep their family safe.
Flash forward to current time in the US to a journalist in Texas who is going to do a story about a typical Christmas in WWII Germany. She is sent to interview the owner of the only German baker in El Paso. Yup, you guessed it, she interviews one of the daughters of our 'good' German family.
What you get here is not a typical story about a typical Christmas. This is a story that you will find yourself totally immersed in and the characters that you will love and hate.
If you enjoy WWII, then this is the book for you. I highly recommend this book.
